History
NextRedcastle Clydesdales was formed in 1988 with a foundation mare "Deystone Julie" bred by the late Ernie Leith from Kintore. Julie was a 12 year old mare who never bred a filly. Some wag said recently it was the best mare I ever owned. Since those early days its been onwards and upwards and before long I owned Shatton Lady Di. Her movement was impeccable and we had a lot of fun with her culminating in a win at Aberdeen and reserve champion of champions to Woodhouse Camilla which 3 months earlier had won the Cawdor Cup. This was a taste of things to come!
Around the same time as Di, Carnfinton Apple Blossom a big 18hh bay mare by Ayton Perfection and out of Collessie Brides Blossom was purchased as a 5 year old from the late James Wilson McCracken of Rasharkin, Co-Antrim. This mare was to give us some outstanding show champions and brood mares. The most famous of her offspring was undoubtedly Redcastle Alena, Alena went on to sweep all the foal shows before maturing and going on to win the Stallion Show and Winter Fairs on numerous occasions, 3 times champion of champions at Aberdeen and winning the cup outright. She eventually culminated her show career in 2006 at the Royal Highland show, winning the Cawdor Cup,and the Sanderson for best native breed.
Alena has bred Redcastle Shannon, Now owned jointly with Lee Smith Lynden (Ontario, Canada) who has bred Brelee Daisy who in 2007 was second in her class at the Royal in Toronto.
Other notable offspring include Collessie Redcastle Hallmark who stands at stud for Ronnie Black at Newton of Collessie.
